Arista's enhanced certification program, launched on 1 June 2025, was designed to validate real-world networking and automation skills through a modern, open-book assessment process. With a four-level structure and learning tracks that include sub-tracks in operations and engineering, the program enables individuals and organizations to demonstrate their practical expertise in today's most strategic technology areas.

Certification Levels

The program is structured into four progressive levels of expertise:

Associate (Level 1) – Basic certification, validating the fundamental concepts of the Foundations course.
Specialist (Level 3) – Targeted knowledge in a sub-track such as Operations or Engineering.
Professional (Level 5) – Full mastery of an entire course, awarded automatically when both Specialist certifications (Operations & Engineering) are obtained.
Expert (Level 7) – The highest distinction, demonstrating in-depth and specialized knowledge as well as the ability to lead and design Arista solutions.

Learning Tracks

Each Learning Track offers a specific specialization and may include sub-tracks in Operations and Engineering.

Foundations – Arista EOS and CloudVision Basic Concepts (Associate Level 1).
Data Center – VXLAN/EVPN fabrics, cloud-scale design (Ops & Eng sub-paths available).
Campus – Wired and wireless enterprise networks (planned).
Routing – Advanced routing architectures and protocols (planned).
Automation – Network automation with APIs, CloudVision, and EOS SDKs (planned).

Successful completion of either the Operations or Engineering sub-track awards the Specialist (L3) level; successful completion of both sub-tracks automatically awards the Professional (L5) level.

Unlike traditional multiple-choice tests, Arista certification exams are hands-on, open-book assessments. They simulate real-world scenarios, such as setting up a network or troubleshooting a problem.

Why open-book? Engineers don't memorize commands; they solve problems. Open-book exams encourage the use of documentation, design guides, saved configurations, and course materials.
Use real tools: Everything is at your disposal, except for help from another person.
Timed assessments: Exams are time-limited to ensure both competence and efficiency.

This approach validates knowledge, experience, and understanding rather than mere memorization.

Arista Recertification Policies

Arista certifications are valid for two years, with a unified recertification cycle that makes it easy to maintain multiple certifications:

Certifications obtained before 1 June 2024 must be recertified before 1 June 2026.
Certifications obtained after 1 June 2024 require recertification every two years from the date of acquisition.
Renewing a certification at a given level automatically extends all certifications at the same level or lower in other tracks.
Legacy exams (levels 1 to 5) will remain available until 31 December 2025. After this date, only the new Learning Track exams will apply.
Level 6 is disabled.
Level 7 Expert includes all lower levels, with a dedicated recertification exam scheduled for early 2026.

Option 1: Recertification with existing exams
(before 31 December 2025)

Passing the corresponding exam for L1 through L7 before 31 December 2025, will extend your current certification for an additional two years from the date of passing.
For example, an L3-certified individual who passes the L3 exam before their recertification deadline (before December 31, 2025) will extend their L3 certification for two years. Upon recertification after this two-year period, it will be necessary to pass the new Data Center Engineering Specialist L3 exam to maintain a compatible certification.
No penalties or limitations apply to this option, and all rights and privileges associated with existing certifications will be retained.

Option 2: Transition to the new certification program

You can choose to take the new Data Center Engineering Specialist L3 exam (or the appropriate exam for your certification level) instead of your existing L1 to L7 exam.
This smooth transition to the new program allows you to progress toward the new Professional L5 certification and update your skills.
After 31 December 2025, taking the new program exam will be the only option, as the old exams will be retired.
